Hi, my name is Jack and I am a fifteen year old Sophomore attempting to raise money and awareness for my favorite non-profit organization, No Barriers USA. I was born with a 1 in a million retinal disease that has claimed 3/4 of my vision. On September 27, I will embark on a 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz to San Francisco. The water is cold, the sharks are there and you can't see a thing and I really need your support.

I want to help empower people who are in distress, who have been issued a challenge to rise above and beyond the obstacles set before them or who are struggling to find their purpose in life. Through my Alcatraz Swim - and with the money it raises - I hope to support these people and give them access to the tools to unleash their own vibrant potential.

Life is hard for most people, and a disability only makes it harder because it separates you from other people. Even if it's just in a subtle way. What we all desperately need in life is a good, strong team around us. People who understand us, who appreciate who you are, who support you because they believe in you and in your dreams.

No Barriers USA provides a meeting place of similar minds - in August, the 4-day No Barriers Summit in Telluride just brought almost 1,000 people, scientists and even movie makers together to help build our teams, to see cutting edge technology - from helping blind people see to paralyzed people walk. These programs encourage, embolden and support a life of breaking through barriers and finding our own best self. Discovering that what is within yourself is stronger than what stands in your way - and using that knowledge to overcome your challenges - represents the mantra of No Barriers. I want to help extend the No Barriers mindset of reaching beyond your perceived limits into your everyday thought process. It helps people lead more fulfilling lives.

My ultimate goal is for just one person to witness my swim as a refusal to conform to the status quo. If a 3/4 blind fifteen year old can make the great escape from Alcatraz, what do you dream you can do?

Due to the OVERWHELMING support we've received - we have decided to set a new goal! With four days to go we are hoping to raise $40,000 in total! Every donation to my cause will be matched by an anonymous donor - so your support will have double the impact! Thanks so much for helping us get there!
